About to give your home interior a new lick of paint? Before you reach for the paintbrush, listen up, the verdicts are in and leading paint manufacturers and trend predictors have had their say on this year's hottest paint shades. From airy and refreshing blues to rich forest greens, discover the 2023 colour trends taking us by storm.

From bottle-green sofas to fern-coloured kitchen cabinets, glorious green is a key colour in every interior right now. Our constant need to immerse ourselves in the natural environment isn't going anywhere in 2023. Little Greene has revisited its archives to produce a whole range of green paint tones and leafy papers curated into a collection simply named Forest. Versatile and timeless, like nature the colourways blend perfectly, like in this gorgeous green decorated kitchen that is painted Windmill Lane 296 and Cordoba 277.

Rich and atmospheric, inky blues are the new black. Already a huge dark kitchen colour trend, the moody hue is now embracing every other room in the house. Paired with bright colours, this shade creates an alluring and dramatic bedroom. Alternatively, offset with opulent light-hued furniture and copper accessories for a smart, luxurious living room. Apartment Therapy reported inky Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball was the most Instagrammed paint colour of 2022 with 54,300 hashtags.

Pink will remain a rosy hue high in demand in 2023. According to Homes & Gardens, the trendiest Farrow and Ball colour to paint your home towards the end of 2022 was Sulking Room Pink, racking up 14,800 average global monthly searches. The romantic muted rose hue is so versatile and sophisticated, we predict it won't be dropping off the F&B no.1 pink spot for a while.

Alizarin, a deep and moody auburn red, was named the Graham and Brown Colour Of The Year 2023. Named after the pigment derived from the Rubia plant, the rich red is warming and exotic. It's designed to create a cocooning effect in small spaces and to transform larger rooms into an "opulent abode". If you like to team rich colour and pattern, G&B's wallpaper of the year 2023 is 'Florenzia' and designed to work in harmony with Alizarin. 

Fear not, Magnolia hasn't quite returned, but believe it or not cream is making a comeback! Paint leaders in the US, BEHR announced its Paint Colour of the Year 2023 as Blank Canvas DC-003. As described by BEHR, the delicious neutral creates a welcoming atmosphere in hallways, comfort in living rooms and relaxation in bedrooms. 

Dulux Colour Of The Year 2023 is a barley or wheat-toned gold, named Wild Wonder. This warm neutral is a bit of a chameleon; on some walls, it can look green and on others yellow. "If you imagine a freshly dried cardamom pod, it's got that beautiful golden-green colour to it," explains Creative Director at Dulux, Marianne Shillingford. As usual, Dulux has released a set of stylish palettes to complement the golden hue.

Get ready for Pantone's Colour Of The Year 2023, as it's shocking. Shocking pink that is! Yes, Viva Magenta is from the red family and is inspired by the red of cochineal, an ancient and natural dye. We love the vibrant contrast to the current popular earthy tones. This corner sofa upholstered in bright turmeric tones set against the hot-pink shade is so uplifting. 

Still in the red family, but perhaps a little more melancholy, Earthborn Paints' Colour Of The Year was recently announced as Lady Bug, a rich, jewel-toned burgundy. Interior stylist for Earthborn, Laura North says: "Lady Bug is a beautiful earthy burgundy with brown undertones, and it's surprisingly adaptable, pair with soft pink for a romantic feel or go bold and playful with similarly saturated hues."

Another paint manufacturer that predicts the colour shift towards nature-inspired colours in 2023 is Lick. Its collaboration with Soho House sees a palette for 2023 that brings natural hues and rustic shades to the forefront. Our favourites are Nashville House (Pink 13), Soho Farmhouse (Beige 02), and Soho Roc House (Taupe 03). We also love Lick's energising flash of Orange 02 Matt that's featured in a collaboration with @thishousewemade. Set against glorious black and white chevron-painted stairs, it offers a striking global vibe.

As we hone in on colourful interiors, COAT predicts that purple tones will be back into interiors during 2023 in a big way. Trinket is a deep purple that will make a large room look regal. We love this sophisticated look that pairs purple walls with even darker woodwork. 

If you don't notice statement ceilings everywhere in 2023, it can only be because you prefer looking down at statement floors. Painting that fifth wall wraps a room in colour and is the hottest trend of the moment. Why not start off your colourful painted ceiling by choosing a warm neutral for a subtle change? The next step is to fully submerge walls and ceiling in one hue as shown here. Or, for those wanting to make a statement, create a feature ceiling with vibrant shades and patterns.  

Sorbet brights will also be packing a punch going forward. To start things up, Benjamin Moore's Colour Of The Year, Joie de Vivre, is super refreshing. It's described as a "vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink that enlivens the sense with an electric optimism". If full saturation is too daring for you, the confident tone will look uplifting as a feature wall paired with shell pink or off-white. 

Perennially popular, pale pastel shades have been revised for this year's palette. Crown Paints has come up with a soothing colour story called Altered, which mixes chalky pinks, golden yellows and stormy blues. When the hues are paired with crisp lines and architectural paint decorating ideas, the soft, muted tones take on a funky Miami-style aesthetic that's perfect for an edgy bedroom wall mural. 

Another of Crown Paints' stories for 2023 hones in on our search for sustainable style. Conscious picks out naturally inspired tones pulled from organic elements such as cork, stone, reclaimed brick, sawdust and jute. These specific materials can be repurposed again and again.

2023 is gearing up for a hybrid home life that will accommodate flexible floor plans and inter-generational living. Crown Paints' Define palette takes inspiration from high-end hotels and restaurants that blur the lines between day and night. Think moody hues that create atmospheric zones that can adapt a space to fit multiple uses whatever the hour.

Neutral tones will never go out of style. This year, look for colours that offer a warming undertone as they make a fabulous platform for a shot of accent colour like this dazzling royal blue sofa and matching wall art. Laura Jackson, style consultant at COAT, explains: "My go-to paint for 2023 is a warm neutral with an undertone of yolky yellow, it just goes with anything, and honey colours will be really on-trend as we move into 2023. My absolute go-to for a very distinctive yet understated colour though is COAT’s Pablo. A neutral putty with just a hint of lilac, it’s a simple backdrop to let accessories do the talking and teams beautifully with a yolky yellow."

Sherwin-Williams has set its sights on our new love of beige by naming Rendered Point SW 9081 as its Colour of the Year 2023. Sherwin-Williams defines the hue as minimal, calming and intriguing. It's an amalgamation of blush pink and warm terracotta, adding a gentle note of harmony and an atmosphere of warmth. The raw plaster-toned hue reminds us of Farrow and Ball's ever-popular Sulking Room Pink, so they are probably onto something!

Valspar has released not one, but a whole set of Colours Of The Year for 2023. Consisting of Ivory Brown, Cozy White, Gentle Violet, Blue Arrow, Flora (green), Desert Carnation (orange), Green Trellis, Rising Tide (aqua), Holmes Cream, Southern Road (pink), Villa Grey and Everglade Deck (teal). The palette is as detailed as it is beautiful and liveable.

Last year, ochre proved a strong colour contender but this time around it's all about mustard. To the untrained eye, it is hard to tell the difference between the two rich yellow shades but there is a definite distinction; mustard is slightly darker thanks to its brown undertones. This spicy hue looks glorious in a global-style living space when accompanied by black accents and teamed with earthy, natural-toned furniture.

Blue is everywhere we look at the moment. Graham & Brown chose it as its 2022 Colour of the Year, very much aligned with Dulux's Bright Skies. Pair with crisp whites for an airy feel or team with deeper tones for a moody space. We love this mono-decorating scheme that layers the same tone to create a contemporary and atmospheric coastal vibe.

If you can't let go of grey how about we wean you off gently? Calming grey with a touch of natural beige to warm the undertone equals the new colour term: 'Greige'. It's a safe transition from our favourite new neutral grey to more cutting-edge earthy browns. Soft Grey Suede by Crown Paints shown here is a good example.

Orange-based terracotta has soothing amber undertones that create a warm and inviting living space. For a truly enveloping effect, paint all four walls or incorporate it as an accent colour to complement a bold shade. In this bedroom, mustard-coloured curtains frame a terracotta feature wall and white bed linen creates balance.

This gorgeous rich green is from Farrow & Ball's Colour by Nature palette, created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. It's vibrant as well as soothing and looks incredible in upbeat kitchen schemes.

With dark and dramatic kitchens taking over our homes, Farrow & Ball's De Nimes is a great go-to. This blue-gray shade, inspired by the indigo denim first produced in the French city of Nimes, is the perfect smokey setting for a brooding culinary space. Pair with pale countertops and splashbacks for a beautifully balanced scheme.

Although darker greys are dominating the paint palette, softer mid-tones are by no means a thing of the past. Relaxed shades like Clocktower from M&L Paints can transform anything from a small study to an open-plan kitchen thanks to their timeless appeal. Accentuate this soft shade with warming natural materials for a pared-back finish.

Soft and fresh, neo mint is set to soar. Its pale botanical-inspired hue is a soothing choice for a bedroom and would even work well on the walls of a gender-neutral nursery. Here, it's been paired with a pale blue skirting band for a quirky two-tone effect.

Let's face it, painting a room black is not for the fainthearted. However, when coupled with bright, jewel toned-accessories you can create a sophisticated space that isn't so intimidating. Here, sapphire blue curtains and soft furnishings mellow out the dramatic black backdrop, reflecting light back into the room.
